Abstract

The general aim of the projrct is the establishing of a nursery for medicinal and aromatic plant species (Lavandula angustifolia and Lavandula hybrida), by means of in vitro multiplication technology, to obtain bioforms with a raised bioproductivity (biomass and active prnciples),adapted to Romania’s pedo-climatic conditions.

Specific objectives:

bioforms selection, their phytochemical characterization;

micropropagation technology transfer;

initiating a tissue culture laboratory;

staf training;

achieving the initial/initiating lot.

The service is made up of multipplication technology transfer b y means of tissue cultures and offering a number of plants (100-150 individuals) to astablish the initial lot. In the same time, we pass the steps of the very laboratory establishing to transfer the multiplication technology to the beneficiary, as well as staf training to get used to the working techniques. The donor-plants will be characterized from the phytochemical point of view, to highlight the volatile oil content – analysis by means fo gas-chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and of the polyphenol content – high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The phytochemical evaluation aims to characterize the vegetal material (bioforms) that will be multiplied in vitro to achieve some collections with well defined morpho-phytochemical characteristics.

The oportunity of the project results from the market demands for raw vegetal material of Lavandula ssp., that imply the development of standardized cultures, for which the demand for seeding material is significant. Its economic importance resides in the content of active principles of the antioxidant type (poliphenols) and especially of the volatile oil, to be used in food industry, cosmetics and phytotherapeutics. The initiating of the nursery is justified by the need for the existence of some certified suppliers of seeding material on the Romanian market, with well defined characteristics.
